I'm Not a Cheerleader

People often ask me if I am a motivational speaker. No, not in they way most people mean it. I don't  put on pep rallies. But I do offer business education workshops. Learning new things is very stimulating and morivating if you can apply what you learn at work. That's one of the things I do. Educate. And I believe I make learning fun!

You can't use motivational presentations to fix people or morale issues. For those, you must go to the root cause.

Fix People Issues

Sometimes good people go bad because the environment is bad. Weak or poor leadership creates a bad environment. BUT, before you start cracking heads, look at "work product". Often a little management training can greatly improve business.

Recognition is the key to greater productivity. If you know your people could be doing better work but you see attitude problems, we can fix that. Learning how to recognize the positive will greatly diminish the negative. One day of training with you and your management staff will increase employee productivity beyond your expectations.

I personally guarantee that if we work on employee recognition, everything will improve at your business.

What to Do With the Duds

You can't build a team of dysfunctional players. If your team doesn't get along, chances are you have some troublemakers in your group. You know who they are. Fire them. You can only build a business around good people. Face that reality.

Teamwork Isn't Always Necessary

Some work doesn't require a "team" and some does. There is a huge difference between teamwork and cooperation. Too often people are compelled to attend team building seminars when the problem is really cooperation. If you want your business to improve, build on the producers.

Remember that some people work better alone. That's fine as long as they cooperate with the goals of the business and show respect to their co-workers (talent). Think about what needs to be done as a team and what is best accomplished individually.

I do not give pep rallies. "Rah rah" sessions never produce lasting results. If you want a cheerleader, hire a cheerleader. If you want to increase sales or improve your business productivity, let's develop a marketing plan or conduct some sales and management training. Some people problems can be fixed.

I'm not a "yes" man. If I think you are wrong, I will tell you. There is no value in a business advisor who simply agrees with you on everything. Still, it's your business. We'll work together within your comfort zone.
