Knowledge IS Power

It’s never too late…

Business is tough. It seems if money is to be made with a product or service, the competition floods in to destroy margins. This, however, is a battle that can be won and it’s never too late to start equipping yourself to fight back.

The rules of business, marketing in particular, have changed over the past 5 years. As a manager, are you familiar with the new rules of engagement? If not, consider doing some reading. There are hundreds of new business books available at the click of an Add-to-Cart button. Many of the best titles can be purchased in digital audio format.

The advantages of reading are obvious. Reading stimulates creativity and energizes the mind. Reading can help pull you out of a rut by introducing you to new ideas. Learning to use digital audio has the advantage of time. Yes, time. You probably find it very difficult to find the time to read as much you’d like. But, if you can use an IPod or similar MP3 player, you can use the time spent in the car or on an airplane to catch up with your reading.

I used to read a couple books per month. Now, with my IPod I can get through 8 or more books in a month by using the time spent driving to appointments. The cost is minimal compared to the information and entertainment I’m able to absorb in what was previously lost time.

Where to start? You’ll need an MP3 player. I recommend a model with at least 2GB of storage. You really won’t need more than that unless you want to load it up with thousands of your favorite music CDs. A 20 hour audio book requires about 400MB of space so you’d get get 4 or 5 books on a 2GB player. When you’ve finished “reading” them, delete and replace with new ones.

I subscribe to Audible’s service which allows me to choose any two books I wish every month for a low flat rate. It’s a bargain.

I’d recommend starting out with a couple of Seth Godin’s books. He has a comfortable style and delivers much to consider for today’s business. You don’t have to read business books. You’ll benefit from virtually any reading you do as nearly every book has something for the mind to feed on.

If you’d like help selecting an MP3 player or getting started with audio books, just drop me a note and I’ll be glad to help you get started. (I don’t sell MP3 players or audio books)

Knowledge is power. Get both. Don’t wait.
