Super Bowl Lesson

February 4, 2013

A lot of people are complaining about the “missed” holding call at the end of the Super Bowl.

I am not sure that was a missed call. Maybe.

It did not cost the 49ers a Super Bowl trophy. Falling 20 points behind cost them the game. Falling behind.

Sure, we can point to a bad break, tough luck or even poor refereeing as the root cause for coming in second. The real cause was failing to lead.

It was a great game. It was exciting. Great teams learn from mistakes and adjust. I think the 49ers may be on the way to building another dynasty. Sometimes long strings of victories start with a stinging defeat.

Don’t blame the refs. The team didn’t.
