The timing of Seth Godin’s post today could not be better. I have just completed establishing a base in Facebook for my business ventures. It took time but I’m very pleased with the results. And, what I thought would be an annoyance, is actually fun.

We, the businesses that fall below the line of the Fortune 1,000 have an opportunity to compete in ways very frustrating to the companies above the line. It frustrates the big guys because the field is level.

It will take time to get set up. The cost is between free and very little even if you seek outside help. The exposure or at least potential exposure is huge. The risk is minimal and the benefits are good to potentially great.

Expose yourself.

Make it a goal right now to enhance your marketing by utilizing the free tools available with social networking. They are Facebook, YouTube, MySpace, LinkedIn and Twitter to name a few.

If you don’t understand these tools, hire someone who does to get you started. Let your fans gather. Let the grumblers, grumble.

Then start a blog. Allow comments.

These tools create ways for customers to find you and communicate with you. Isn’t that what you want?

If the answer to that question is no, you’d better take a very close look at why that is. That ‘no’ could be the key to the biggest obstacle to your greater success.
